Staffing Updates: Burlington Economic Development and City of Burlington announce new joint roles to support business and economic growth in Burlington

Burlington Economic Development and the City of Burlington are thrilled to announce the hiring of two new joint roles that will play a direct role in supporting business in Burlington and driving economic prosperity in the city.

We are excited to share that Mark Steffler is stepping into a new role as Strategic Lead for the Burlington Lands Partnership and Sabah Kazmi is joining us as a Specialist, Business and Economic Development.

Mark joined the Burlington Economic Development team in a joint role with the City of Burlington in 2013 and has since spearheaded numerous strategic projects, including leading the due diligence for the acquisition of Robert Bateman High School, attracting Brock University to the area, and successfully securing funding for and launching Burlington’s soft-landing program for international businesses.

In this new role, Mark will lead strategic initiatives for the City by driving land partnerships to create community amenities, economic growth and attainable housing.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys exploring the Niagara Escarpment and sampling Burlington’s diverse culinary scene.

Sabah Kazmi has been part of the Halton Region business community since 2017. She has previously worked as Manager of Business Services at Haltech Regional Innovation Centre (now merged and known as Innovation Factory) as well as a Business Consultant with the Region of Halton. These experiences have equipped her with the knowledge required to support local businesses and assist them in navigating their unique challenges.

In her new role, Sabah will continue to leverage her business support skills to build relationships and nurture our Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), support main street enterprises, and be at the forefront of strategic initiatives aimed at economic development within the city of Burlington.

On the weekend, you’ll find Sabah snuggled in the corner with a book and tea in hand, or outside shooting some hoops with her three little ones.

We are excited to work alongside the City of Burlington to continue to provide support to our local businesses and support growth. We are thrilled to welcome Mark and Sabah in their new roles and continue to provide a customer-centric approach to business growth in Burlington!
