Burlington Economic Development and Tourism Releases 2024 Annual Report Highlighting Amalgamation and Expanded Programming
July 22, 2025 | BURLINGTON, ON
Burlington Economic Development and Tourism is proud to announce the release of its 2024 Annual Report, capturing a transformative year of strategic integration, expanded programming, and record-breaking impact across sectors. Representing the first annual report following the amalgamation of Burlington Economic Development and Tourism Burlington, it reflects a strengthened, more coordinated approach to growing Burlington’s economy and elevating the visitor experience.
In 2024, the organization supported over 800 businesses, helped attract more than 300 new jobs, and recorded $524 million in visitor spending—a 26% increase over 2023. These results were made possible through new initiatives, including the Tourism Investment Fund, a dedicated Event Concierge Service, and an expanded Corporate Calling Program designed to better connect with local businesses across Burlington’s diverse industries.
Executive Director Anita Cassidy described 2024 as “a year of strategic evolution,” as the organization brought together two teams into a unified structure. She noted that Burlington Economic Development and Tourism “expanded our data capabilities, strengthened regional partnerships, and supported major investments in clean tech and innovation.” Cassidy added that the new Destination Stewardship Plan “sets a visionary course for responsible tourism growth and deeper community engagement,” and emphasized that the organization remains focused on enabling sustainable growth and delivering exceptional service across all areas of work.
The Chair of the Board of Directors, Ron Laidman, emphasized the collaborative effort behind the year’s success. He credited over 2,000 volunteer hours and strong staff leadership for making the merger a success, noting that it was accomplished “without losing focus on day-to-day operations.” Laidman added that the commitment shown throughout the year “has laid a strong foundation for the future,” and the work ahead will build on this momentum.
Mayor Marianne Meed Ward also reflected on the year in her message included in the report, highlighting a “10-year high in housing starts and continued investments in infrastructure, sustainability, and economic resilience.” These achievements, she noted, have positioned Burlington to remain a city of opportunity as it navigates new challenges and emerging economic trends in 2025.
