BEDC Announces Opening of TechPlace, Burlington’s innovation centre
(May 15, 2017) BEDC ANNOUNCES OPENING OF TECHPLACE, BURLINGTON’S NEW INNOVATION CENTRE
The Burlington Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) is pleased to announce that TechPlace, Burlington’s new innovation centre, will open its doors on June 22, 2017.
First announced at Mayor Rick Goldring’s State of the City address earlier this year, TechPlace will be dedicated to connecting, developing, and advancing new and growing technology companies. With the support of partners across the public and private sectors, the 8,600-square foot facility will provide access to space, programming, mentorship, networking and resources that are fundamental to growing a business in today’s technology-driven marketplace. TechPlace will aim to help technology, talent and ideas come together under one roof to create and promote opportunities for economic growth.
According to Claire Green, Manager at TechPlace, “We know 40% of new jobs in Canada come from companies less than five years old.” Green continued, “At BEDC, we believe it is important to support the continued growth of these companies, and so as part of BEDC’s mandate to support the business community and attract new investment to Burlington, we committed to creating a physical space where companies can come together to tap into new technology, ideas, and talent. This project has been in the works for quite some time, and we are very excited to see it come to life.”
Registration for the June 22 grand opening is open and on a first come, first serve basis, so be sure to register early by clicking here. You can also sign up for BEDC’s e-newsletter at www.investburlington.ca to stay up-to-date on what’s happening at TechPlace.
