Two Brothers Build One of Ontario’s Top Selling Breweries in Burlington
Originally started as Better Bitters in 1992, Nickel Brook Brewery Co. was formed in 2004 by brothers John and Peter Romano. Having grown up nearby, they knew our city’s close proximity to major land, air and sea distribution networks meant they could source the finest natural ingredients for their products from anywhere in the world.
In 2016, the brothers transformed their original brewery into a “Funk Lab”, the first of its kind in the country. The lab explores how unique yeast and bacteria strains can elevate craft beer to new heights of flavour, with production dedicated solely to small-batch funk and sour beers. Today, Nickel Brook is an award-winning craft brewery that ranks 8th in Ontario, out of 350 breweries.
The brothers note that our city’s lifestyle opportunities are unmatched; that Burlington is clean and safe, and a terrific place to raise a family. Natural attractions like the Niagara Escarpment and Bruce Trail, a revitalized waterfront, and countless festivals and events make them proud to call us home.
“We describe Burlington as 'Wicked Awesome!'...which is also the name of one of our Beers.”
