Burlington, ON September 27, 2019 – Burlington rolls out the red carpet for companies to access talent with new Mohawk Industry and Employer website
On September 24th 2019, Mohawk College launched a new website dedicated to helping regional businesses attract and retain skilled employees. The rollout of this tool directly aligns with recent Red Tape, Red Carpet recommendations that got approved at City Council on September 23rd, 2019. Mohawk College was engaged during the Red Tape Red Carpet (RTRC) outreach and developed this tool in part due to recommendations that arose from the RTRC sessions. Recommendations included looking at a post-secondary attraction strategy for Burlington, bringing new programming, access to talent, and research and development opportunities for Burlington companies.
“We are excited to be working with Mohawk College on this website project as an immediate response to the Red Carpet Red Tape Task Force report,” says Anita Cassidy, Acting Executive Director at Burlington Economic Development Corporation. “Local companies have had a voice in the creation of this website and we are confident it will effectively link Mohawk’s well-trained graduates with Burlington businesses and industries.”
This tool will make it easier for Burlington companies and organizations to recruit and hire Mohawk College graduates, co-operative education students and students in other education streams. The new Industry and Employer website has been collaboratively designed to address the workforce development needs of local employers and industry partners. The site provides a one-stop shop for information and resources to: connect with students on campus; hire students and graduates; collaborate on applied research projects; develop strategic initiatives; and learn about applicable grants and funding for student employment.
“The City of Burlington has been a valued Mohawk partner for many years and we are pleased to support the Red Carpet Red Tape initiative through this website, giving employers throughout this region access to our job-ready graduates,” says Paul Armstrong, Vice-President of Academics at Mohawk College. “We are committed to student success and graduate success. This website represents another pathway to meaningful employment for Mohawk students.”
Initially launched to Burlington businesses, the site will be extended to employers throughout the region later this fall.
About the Red Carpet Red Tape Task Force
The RTRC is an initiative announced by Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward at the State of the City in January 2019. Its purpose is to use a series of events and feedback options to identify the challenges and obstacles facing growth and relocation of businesses in Burlington, and develop actionable solutions to keep Burlington Open for Business.
